Declared vs Dynamic Mileage

Two types of mileage record

You’ve seen that our subscription offerings include separate entitlements to Declared Mileage and to Dynamic Mileage. In a declared type of record, you, the user, provide the distance value
In a dynamic record, the distance value is “looked up” by the Mileage Pie engine.

Declared

If you already know the distance of your trips, or if you are an habitual user of “maps” to get to your destinations, then you can use Declared Mileage entries. This is where you include the mileage distance for your trip using the syntax : “mileage is [ some number of miles ].” Practically like you would have kept mileage records 30 years ago on a notepad in your visor. But in the cloud. We do the addition.

For Declared Mileage, the names that you give to your locations can be entirely self-serving. There are no rules for that define a well-formed address or location for Declared Mileage records. Example: “Aunt Aurileas House.” Since we are not looking up the place, it’s on you. JUST REMEMBER. If you next switch to a Dynamic record for the next record… maybe your place name won’t help at all. A good rule of thumb is : if Google can’t find it, neither can we. What comes up when you google “Gene’s house”? “Loretta’s House”? Not much and way too much.

Dynamic

Dynamic mileage is a request without a mileage value. We provide the mileage value as part of our process for completing the mileage entry. So you don’t have to.
